The Internet is an excellent resource for economists, with many working papers and research articles made available by their authors. Searching on search engines for these resources can be very successful depending on the search criteria used. In addition, a vast number of data is available, which enable students to easily find facts to include in their essays.

Student Economic
Resources

economic-truth does not proclaim itself as the only website on the Internet geared towards students of economics; indeed, it does not proclaim itself as even the best (though it is pretty good). The following are other sites which may hold useful information for students - however, note that a number of them are US-based, and therefore care must be taken to ensure all terms used are relevant.

Data Resources

A word of warning: not everything published on the Internet is true. When including data sourced from a website, always ensure that the website is reliable, and always provide a source so that others can see the authenticity for themselves. Also, try and look for other sources of the same data - not all data is checked thoroughly before publication on the Internet, and a stray decimal point may make all the difference!

Search Engines

Before we list them, some general hints for searching on Internet search engines:

  1. Ensure that you include as many terms as you think will appear in the document as you can. Searching for keynes will bring up too many results; searching for keynes consumption function will give a much more accurate list.
  2. The same search term at different search engines may well bring up different results. Do not rely on just one of these sites.
